Blueberry Crush Sangria

I'm considering a new series on this blog... How would you all feel about wine Wednesdays?  Not every Wednesday of course, but just to mix things up sometimes!  Most all of the drinks I make end up being something I concoct from various ideas and recipes I see online, and then add wine to it, and voilĂ , wine punch!  And I see a distinct lack of wine punch or creative sangria recipes on Pinterest, so look no further; I'm coming to the rescue!
I made this drink recently for a party in which the color theme was purple, so of course we had to have a purple drink!  It was met with much praise, and I highly suggest giving it a try!  It is a very sweet drink, but can be toned down based on your preferences.  It would be the perfect way to bring in Spring!
(If it is actually Spring where you live, we just pretend here, it is still snowing)

Ingredients

Blueberry syrup:

  • Bag of frozen blueberries (minus 1/3 cup.)
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 3 cups water

Sangria Base:

  • 1/2 cup Blueberry vodka (or vanilla, or plain... use your best judgement on if you think the flavors would mesh well)
  • One 750ml bottle of Pinot Grigio
  • 3 lemons, juiced
  • One bottle of Sparkling Wine (Brut, or Extra Dry depending on how sweet you would like it to be)

Garnish:

  • 2 sliced lemons
  • Frozen blueberries
  • Fresh mint

Directions

  1. Place blueberries, sugar, and water in a saucepan and bring to a boil. Reduce heat and let simmer for five minutes.  Cool, strain, and chill the syrup.  (Save the cooked blueberries for later, you can turn them into a blueberry compote!)
  2. In a pitcher, mix the chilled blueberry syrup, vodka, lemon juice, and Pinot Grigio. Stir well and allow to sit for a few hours, or overnight.  If it is too sweet you can play with the vodka and lemon juice rations to tone it down.
  3. Before serving, add the reserved 1/3 c. of frozen blueberries, sliced lemons, and mint to garnish.
  4. Finally, pour in the champagne last to preserve as many of the bubbles as possible.  Serve chilled and in large portions!.

Ipsy September + Past Hightlights

So I finally took the dive, and bought an Ipsy subscription!  I have enjoyed watching these videos for years, but could never bring myself to go ahead and buy it, but I'm so excited I did! First of all, can we talk about how incredibly cute this bag is?  It is a metallic brown pleather above the zipper and on the back, and below the zipper is textured.  I thought is was so cute, that I used it as a clutch on my Anniversary! So the first thing I received on the far left is First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Cream.  This is a very thick unscented hand cream, which will be great for Winter! The second thing I received was Elizabeth Mott Queen of the Fill tinted brow gel.  I was really excited about this, because I've never tried a brow product before, but I have been wanting to!  Sadly, because I don't pluck or wax my brows, they were very thick and dark to begin with and the thick brow look did not work for me... The third thing I received on the ...
