About Me

Hi, my name is Bethany!

I am 22 years old, and just graduated from Appalachian State University!  I majored in Middle Grades Education with a concentration in English and Social Studies.  I am currently working in an Afterschool Care program, as well as tutoring and substituting until I find a full time teaching position.  I have one younger brother who is in middle school, and I am a very family oriented person.  I am also currently in a relationship with a wonderful man who attended Appalachian as well!  Some of my passions include baking cupcakes, packing, essential oils, and blogging, and I am absolutely crazy about Disney!

I created this blog in 2012 and at the time, I was a high school sophomore ecstatic about going to the beach and in need of an outlet for projecting that excitement.  Since its creation, the goals of this blog have slightly changed and matured as I have.  Most of my posts are now focused around my life, including travel, as well as special events and my daily activities. I also enjoy posting about baking, drinks, and other recipes, as well as makeup, subscription boxes, essential oils, packing, and planning. If you can't tell, it's a pretty eclectic mix, but writing about each of these things truly sparks joy in my life!

My Petal Club

A new box!  And a PERIOD subscription box at that!  I love finding new boxes to try out, especially when they are this affordable!  This box is normally $6.99 per month, but if you use the discount code "SUMMER" on mypetalclub.com , this box will be only $3.50!  And let's be honest, one box of pads/tampons is usually more expensive than that, so why not give it a try?? So this box primarily consists of just the period products with very few extras.  This isn't one of the present, feel-good kind of boxes, it just provides you with the necessary products to get through the month, at an affordable price. Step One The first thing you do on their website is choose the combination of products you will need.  Be warned, you aren't given as much of a selection if you order through Cratejoy like I did.  It worked totally fine and I still got the products I needed, but I like choice!  So I suggest going straight through their website....

Be Mine... Kissable Lip Routine

I thought this was a kind of unique post, but also a great way to kick off Beach Babe's Be Maine Valentine's Day Series! I mean, you can't have a Valentines Day without soft kissable lips! Even if you don't have a Valentine this year, you don't want to be caught by surprise! ;) First thing i do (and the very first thing you all should do!) is start out by exfoliating your lips! Before I use a Lip Scrub, I run warm water over a washcloth, wring it out, and rub my lips with this. Next I take a lip scrub (if you would like to know what I use check out this link here, but any kind you prefer will work). I use the washcloth on my lips first so that they will be more open to absorb the benefits of the Scrub. Lastly, I apply some of the lip scrub to a clean toothbrush and use this on my lips. Grab the washcloth once again and wipe the scrub and crystals away! :) The next thing you should do in your kissable lips routine, is apply a lip balm. My favorites are the eos...

Natural Hair Highlightes

I am in love with the way that highlights look on your hair, but I'm not so crazy about how much they cost. I found that these will lighten your hair and give you a summertime look for not even half the price. Just apply on your hair before laying in the sun or going out for a day at the beach and come home looking like a blond and bronzed beach goddess! Lemon This is by far the best known of the natural hair highlighters. Mix 1/4 cup of fresh squeezed lemon juice and 3/4 cup of water in spray bottle. Spray the lemon water onto your hair until damp, do not soak your scalp or spray on skin, it could cause blistering. Leave the mixture on your hair for 2 hours, and spend at least 30 minutes of that time in the sun. Condition your hair before and after you use the lemon juice because it can dry your hair.   Olive Oil You may know that olive oil is a wonderful hair conditioner but many people don't realize it can be used as a natural hair lightener too. Comb a gen...
