Beachy Decorations

Lighting

  • You could try filling glass lamps filled with seashells
  • If you you are going for a surfer vibe, hang brightly colored paper lanterns along the ceiling.
  • For a more whimsical touch, use strings of lights in the shape of palm trees or Flip-Flops. Maybe frame the headboard of your bed with them and use it as a reading light at night!

Seashells

  • One way to use seashells when decorating is to cover the border of picture frames or mirrors with them. Find shells of various colors and sizes and glue them on the frame or mirror using a glue gun. You could also do the same to a plain plant pot or pencil cup.
  • If you have collected shells on previous trips, display them in glass jars. If they aren't full yet, don't worry, you can add new shells each time you go to the beach!
  • Shadow boxes are another way to display shells you have found or purchased on your travels. Hang the finished box on the wall, and... you're done!
  • I think my favorite way to display seashells is just to sit them around my room! On my bookshelves, desk, nightstand, and makeup table, it adds an instant beachy feel :)
Wall Decorations

  • Hang a collection of frames on one wall that you bought on your vacation or made using the project above, and fill with photos you have taken on your trip!
  • Enlarge and frame pictures from a family beach vacation.
  • Another option is to buy a small canvas, and paint it the color of your choice, I suggest pastel colors. Then glue a star fish, sand dollar, sea biscuit, or scalloped shell in the center of it for an instant piece of minimalist art.
  • Try hanging a net in the corner filled with shells and/or a fake anchor
  • Hang a flip flop-shaped bulletin board on the wall to display pictures or other mementos from your trip.

Miscellaneous

  • Buy tropical plants, ferns, or small palm trees and set them around the room to make it feel more tropical.
  • Find small Lighthouses that you can sit on you nightstand or bookshelves
  • Create a useful and decorative item for a child's room by attaching a large sea biscuit or sand dollar to a plain plastic night light clip with epoxy glue; the light accentuates the markings on the shell and casts the shapes about the room.
  • Give your room a signature scent you absolutely love! Perhaps it’s a candle, maybe it’s a spritz of perfume, or even bowl of potpourri! Try one that reminds you of summer, maybe one that smells faintly like your favorit sunscreen, or something tropical like coconut or citrus

Mail Time: TheECPlannerKitLady Sticker Haul

So apparently Halloween was mail day for me!  I checked my mailbox that morning after class and found a few fun things, and then later I got a notification that a package had been delivered, so why not check again?  I found my package and another letter!  It hadn't been such a great weekend, so finding all of the fun things waiting for me on Monday perked me right up! I got three cards, one from my mom, my mom's coworker, and my grandmother!  I thought it was fun that all three had puppies. My mother also sent me a huge box of Halloween goodies!  Candy, tattoos, donuts, fake bugs, all kinds of fun stuff! But now on to the true meat of this post, I recently placed two orders with  TheECPlannerKitLady  on Etsy!  I know two is a bit excessive, but first she had a sale, and then she offered a discounted grab bag, both just for members of her Facebook group !  Planner stickers can be very expensive, so I jump at opportunities to...

Empties Part 1: Hair and Body Products

Please don't judge the amount of products I have here! This is probably collective from the past 6 months of more, and I just did a clean out of some old products.  To make things easier I will underline the products I have repurchased or would consider buying again in the future. Hair Products These are all of the mousses I've used recently! I use a lot of mousse...  And also somehow a hairspray snuck it's way in there Got2B Kinky - Can't say I'd buy this again... I generally buy whatever is on sale because I like to try new things, but this was a bad choice.  It didn't have a good hold, and had a very different smell that I wasn't crazy over.  Not repurchasing. Herbal Essences Curl Booster - This one I liked a lot better.  The hold wasn't steller, but my hair was always very soft when I used it.  I haven't repurchased this currently, but I wouldn't be opposed to it. Aussie Instant Freeze Hairspray - This literally took me FO...

Sunburn Relief

Even when you wear sunscreen, sometimes the inevitable happens and you get the dreaded sunburn... So what should you do? I have a few suggestions of the best way to be as comfortable as possible while you recover! 1.) Pain Reliever First things first, as soon as you discover your sunburn head to the medicine cabinet and take an over-the-counter pain reliever such as Ibuprofen or Advil. These are anti-inflammatory medications which will help to reduce swelling and pressure from the sunburn, which will relive  some of the pain. 2.) Hydrate The second most helpful thing you can possibly do is drink water! The sun has sucked all of the moisture from your skin, and it is literally  begging for you to replenish it. Try to drink just water, since it is better for you and more hydrating than juice or sodas. 3.) Take a Bath Try to limit yourself to no more that 30 minutes, but that thirty minutes can do wonders for your...
