Beachy Decorations

Lighting

  • You could try filling glass lamps filled with seashells
  • If you you are going for a surfer vibe, hang brightly colored paper lanterns along the ceiling.
  • For a more whimsical touch, use strings of lights in the shape of palm trees or Flip-Flops. Maybe frame the headboard of your bed with them and use it as a reading light at night!

Seashells

  • One way to use seashells when decorating is to cover the border of picture frames or mirrors with them. Find shells of various colors and sizes and glue them on the frame or mirror using a glue gun. You could also do the same to a plain plant pot or pencil cup.
  • If you have collected shells on previous trips, display them in glass jars. If they aren't full yet, don't worry, you can add new shells each time you go to the beach!
  • Shadow boxes are another way to display shells you have found or purchased on your travels. Hang the finished box on the wall, and... you're done!
  • I think my favorite way to display seashells is just to sit them around my room! On my bookshelves, desk, nightstand, and makeup table, it adds an instant beachy feel :)
Wall Decorations

  • Hang a collection of frames on one wall that you bought on your vacation or made using the project above, and fill with photos you have taken on your trip!
  • Enlarge and frame pictures from a family beach vacation.
  • Another option is to buy a small canvas, and paint it the color of your choice, I suggest pastel colors. Then glue a star fish, sand dollar, sea biscuit, or scalloped shell in the center of it for an instant piece of minimalist art.
  • Try hanging a net in the corner filled with shells and/or a fake anchor
  • Hang a flip flop-shaped bulletin board on the wall to display pictures or other mementos from your trip.

Miscellaneous

  • Buy tropical plants, ferns, or small palm trees and set them around the room to make it feel more tropical.
  • Find small Lighthouses that you can sit on you nightstand or bookshelves
  • Create a useful and decorative item for a child's room by attaching a large sea biscuit or sand dollar to a plain plastic night light clip with epoxy glue; the light accentuates the markings on the shell and casts the shapes about the room.
  • Give your room a signature scent you absolutely love! Perhaps it’s a candle, maybe it’s a spritz of perfume, or even bowl of potpourri! Try one that reminds you of summer, maybe one that smells faintly like your favorit sunscreen, or something tropical like coconut or citrus

Ipsy September + Past Hightlights

So I finally took the dive, and bought an Ipsy subscription!  I have enjoyed watching these videos for years, but could never bring myself to go ahead and buy it, but I'm so excited I did! First of all, can we talk about how incredibly cute this bag is?  It is a metallic brown pleather above the zipper and on the back, and below the zipper is textured.  I thought is was so cute, that I used it as a clutch on my Anniversary! So the first thing I received on the far left is First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Cream.  This is a very thick unscented hand cream, which will be great for Winter! The second thing I received was Elizabeth Mott Queen of the Fill tinted brow gel.  I was really excited about this, because I've never tried a brow product before, but I have been wanting to!  Sadly, because I don't pluck or wax my brows, they were very thick and dark to begin with and the thick brow look did not work for me... The third thing I received on the ...

Let's Talk...

I feel so bad, I have been such a flake with posting recently and the past month is when I should have been really focused on getting out content, because.... My summer classes started this week. And they are intense. Like, more so than I expected and I'm only a week in. Also, I just got my Summer schedule for the daycare I work at, and instead of my normal 9:30-5:30, I was switched to  6:00-12:30 ...  That is a huge difference, I've never gotten up that early in my life!  It is a lot better in some ways because I now have my full days free, but it's a difficult sleep schedule to get used to.   As a result, I've been spending my mornings at work, and my evenings doing homework, or attempting to have a social life...  This is my last Summer before college after all, so I want to have fun!  But it just makes things more difficult when I need to be in bed early for work, balance homework, and then there is this blog. I love having this...

Disney 2014: Days 6-7

It is officially one month until I leave for Disney!  So in honor of that I thought I would do as I did in my original Disney Announcement  and give you a sneak peek into my trip from last year in preparation for this one! Disney 2014: Day 6 9:15 a.m. Magic Kingdom is hard to get into... so we just now got in.   You have to take a tram from the parking lot, a boat from the ticket center, and then go through the bag check! It is a solid 30 minute process! This morning for breakfast I has one Hot Fudge Sundae pop-tart, and one Strawberry (me and Elijah traded!) Today I am wearing pink mesh Danskin shorts with a black Mickey Mouse tank-top, sequin Minnie Mouse ears, Tiva sandals, and my Magic band, with a Tinker Bell bun! 10:50 a.m. This morning so far we have ridden Space Mountain, Goofy's Barnstormer, Dumbo...  and The Little Mermaid! Now we are in Gaston's Tavern!  We decided to have a La Fous Brew, w...
